Banana Bread

I never have made b-a-n-a-n-a-s (there is no "s" I know but I have to sing the song the **** is bananas b-a-n-a-n-a-s in order to spell correctly). Anyway I digress. I had a couple bananas that were going bad and I found this very tasty recipe on line. If you ever find yourself with some too ripe bananas give it a try- super easy and tasty too. If you would like to taste test first come on over because I can't stop nibbling on it:) Hopefully it will be around at least another day.

Banana Bread Recipe
Ingredients
3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed
1/3 cup melted butter
1 cup sugar (can easily reduce to 3/4 cup)
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of salt
1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
Method
No need for a mixer for this recipe. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). With a wooden spoon, mix butter into the mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl. Mix in the sugar, egg, and vanilla. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix in. Add the flour last, mix. Pour mixture into a buttered 4x8 inch loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour. Cool on a rack. Remove from pan and slice to serve.

My what smells?

This week has been shark week at school and I have a little boy that has been really interested in the smell of the sharks. I am really interested. When we were discussing sharks the day before dissection he kept on asking questions about the smell, what does it smell like, why does it smell etc. His last question was this "If the sharks smell, will we smell all day, does that mean the bus will smell". I explained that other teachers would be dissecting that day and he could let me know if his bus smelled. He then got a horrible look on his face and stuttered "let you know if my what smells"? Anyone know what he thought I said? He thought I said "let me know if your butt smells". HA! So funny, at least I did and so did my kids- it could be that I have the mentality of a 9 year old- I hope you are laughing too.

I like wine

We had a great time on our weekend getaway. There were lots of highlights but tonight I am going to highlight the wine. This winery was just across from the hotel. They have great Italian food but most importantly they have a free wine tasting. One of the parents in my class recommended it to me and it was totally worth a visit. You could choose from a wide range of wines and then retaste if you wanted. Of course who wouldn't want to? Anyway we came home with several different bottles and I am completely enjoying the purchase.

Beachy Style

I'm so happy. I just received the best magazine in the mail yesterday and have read it already from cover to cover. It is called Coastal Living and is all about different beaches and beach decorating. So fun! Now all I need is a beach house- although I am now convinced to do an all white kitchen in my next house- very beach chic. Go to http://www.coastalliving.com/ to check out the magazine.

Elderly Wisdom

I found this quote on another blog and I loved it so I wanted to save it somewhere. It is from a grandmother to a granddaughter. The wisdom of the elderly is just amazing. I remember the wisdom my grandma gives me... oh wait maybe it isn't all the elderly who give great wisdom. She says things like"Getting old sucks" and "Men are not worth it" and of course my favorite "I hate Christmas, there is no point in decorating". At any rate this truly is profound.

by the way I do love my Grandma- every smart alack bit of her.

"Just think, your son is here not by chance, but by Gods choosing. His hand formed him and made him the person he is. He compares him to no one else- he is one of a kind. He will lack nothing that His grace cant give him. He has allowed him to be here at this time in history to fulfill His special purpose for this generation."

Astrology

My mom emailed me this fun website today. It has you enter in your birthday and it computes it. It then gives you your "life path number". Normally I don't buy in to this astrology stuff but the description it gave me was pretty accurate. Check and out and then try it for yourself. http://www.paulsadowski.org/BirthDay.asp

Here is my "life path":
The Life Path 6 suggests that you entered this plane with tools to become the ultimate nurturer, and a beacon for truth, justice, righteousness, and domesticity. Your paternal, or maternal, as the case may be, instincts with a 6 Life Path exceed all others by a considerable margin. Whether in the home or in the work place, you are the predominant caretaker and family head. While the 6 may assume significant responsibilities in the community, the life revolves around the immediate home and family, for this is the most domestic of numbers. Conservative principles and convictions are deeply ingrained and define your character.
You are idealistic and must feel useful to be happy. The main contribution you make is that of advice, service, and ever present support. You are a humanitarian of the first order. It is your role to serve others, and you start in the home environment. You are very human and realistic about life, and you feel that the most important thing in your life is the home, the family and the friends.
This is the Life Path related to leadership by example and assumption of responsibility, thus, it is your obligation to pick up the burden and always be ready to help. If you are like the majority with Life Path 6, you are one who will willingly carry far more than your fair share of any load, and you are always there when needed. In doing so, you take ownership and often become an authority over the situation.
In romance, the 6 is loyal and devoted. A a caretaker type, you are apt to attract partners who are somewhat weaker and more needy than yourself; someone you can care for and protect. The main ingredient that must prevail in the relationship is complete harmony. You don't function well in stressful relationships that become challenges for you to control. It is the same with friends, you are loyal and trustworthy. But there is a tendency for you to become dominating and controlling.
It's likely you feel compelled to function with strength and compassion. You are a sympathetic and kind person, generous with personal and material resources. Wisdom, balance, and understanding are the cornerstones of your life, and these define your approach to life in general. Your extraordinary wisdom and the ability to understand the problems of others is apt to commence from an early age. This allows you to easily span the generation gap and assume an important role in life early on.
The number 6 Life Path actually produces few negative examples, but there are some pitfalls peculiar to the path. You may have a tendency to become overwhelmed by responsibilities and a slave to others, especially members of you own family or close friends. It's easy for you to fall into a pattern of being too critical of others; you also have a tendency to become to hard on yourself. The misuse of this Life Path produce tendencies for you to engage in exaggeration, over-expansiveness, and self-righteousness. Modesty and humility may not flow easily. Imposing one's views in an interfering or meddling way must be an issue of concern.
The natural burdens of this number are heavy, and on rare occasions, responsibility is abdicated by persons with this Life Path 6. This rejection of responsibility will make you feel very guilty and uneasy, and it will have very damaging effects upon your relationships with others.

Family, Fish Fry, Ice cream, Spas, Pizza and Back Splash

An amazing weekend in the Thornton house:

Friday night: church fish fry with Anthony, my mother-in-law and brother-in-law and then mmmm.. as if that wasn't good enough it was followed up with coconut almond fudge ice cream at the Pie Kitchen

Saturday: Found out I get a surprise spa weekend next weekend which also includes horseback and a cooking session at a beautiful resort courtesy of my amazing husband (just the 2 of us). Then lazy snoozing on the couch with the hubby and a quick trip to Target for the red blanket I have wanted and a night of basketball with friends. (even though it wasn't UK it still was a good time)

Sunday: Fixed breakfast, went to church and then spent the day in Lex with my parents. had lunch at my favorite restaurant and then went to look at furniture and Lowe's where and this is an exciting part... we picked out tile to use for back splash in the kitchen- a big commitment for Anthony

Basically all this means I had a wonderful weekend and I don't want to go back to work- I want to have more weekend.

3,2,1, Plunge!

Here are a few pics from this weekend's big jump. It was so much fun. The hardest part was waiting in line to jump. When we finally were ready to jump Alisha and I walked to the end of the boat slip followed by the rest of the team. "3,2,1 plunge" and no one plunged. So, Alisha and I looked at each other and jumped together. The feeling was a crazy rush that felt like little prickles all over. The only moment of panic was when we had to swim to the ladder and our teammates who jumped after we did and were closer to the ladder were getting out first. I considered throwing a few elbows to get out but I made it, no bows thrown feeling accomplished for jumping and for raising almost $300 for Special Olympics.

Can't Always Keep Your Cool- Right?

I normally try to to blow up on here but this may be the time I need to. I always try to keep in mind: Complain but look at how you can fix it. I don't know how to fix it-I can't get the different issues sorted out in my head long enough to find a solution so maybe writing them down will help. I am fed up with my students. They are lazy and unmotivated. To that point, they don't care they are lazy and unmotivated. I have never seen anything like it. I have to read a dumb book for school. I have stayed positive and ignored others' negative comments about the book but I just don't have time to read a book right now- not even one for me. Everyone around me seems to be driving me crazy. I know- that is my issue. Finally, and most petty of all- my hair sucks and I am tired of dealing with it. My emotions are in check most of the time- now they are not- so how about everyone just go away- at least for an hour.
