Halloween shot my nerves
Have I mentioned I am not a huge fan of Halloween? By the end of yesterday my nerves were shot. My morning started out as I was walking up to school bright and early... So early that it was more dark than bright, which made it a perfect opportunity for the school custodian to hide behind a wall and jump out in a creepy mask at as many teachers as he could. I was one of the first, I screamed like a girl and jumped back several feet. I'm a little concerned that I didn't run or that instead of having a fist ready to go it was an open hand. While this was happening my friend and her little girl were not far behind me and instead of coming to my rescue... It could have been real - they got back in their car. She claimed she had to protect her little girl and I had to call her out on that! She did admit she would have gotten back on her car regardless. Always good to know. Next year I am contemplating pepper spray. Nonetheless my heart rate was up for a while. My day ended in Halloween fashion too. I had to stop by our local Kroger and the whole shopping center was infested with an insane amount of families dresses in costumes for what apparently everyone but me knew about. The stores were all having an early trick or treat. By the time I had bobbed and weaved around all the little gohls and goblins for an hour in the grocery and then maneuvered my way through the parking lot- trying to avoid the masses I was spent and my nerves were barley hanging on by a thread. Note to self: 55 days to Christmas!

The Halloween season

I'm in the car on the way to mom and dad's to help lay a wood floor... No need to say more. Anyway I wanted to take a quick second to post before the work week rolls back around and I lose what little life I have. We went a friend's Halloween party on Friday. Now I am not really a Halloween type of person- at this point in the year I am screaming for the better holiday- the Christmas season. None the less I followed Anthony's lead as he dressed as Austin Powers I quickly ran out and bought the cheapest costume I could find to match at Halloween Express (it was the first costume I had bought from a store ever). That ended up being a 70s type dress- and I later found out the the term dress should be used loosely. None the less we won the costume contest- mainly because (I think) my dress was so short and Anthony had hair. I am going to post a picture- but it won't be of the whole dress because really I don't think that is necessary at all:) We don't look too bad at all though.

Girl's Day out
My first day of fall break was a very busy day. Actually it was a Girl's Day. My mom took the day off work and came up to hang out. We went... well, where didn't we go. We went all over this town and did some serious shopping (serious shopping for me anyway). Oh and I did get some leggings and a cute tunic to match. I hope tomorrow is equally as good, as I am off to Cincy to visit Ashley and my grandma. Oh how I need a fall break once a month to actually have a life. Sigh...
one day of fall break

and i am being so productive. I finished a great book called Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen by Susan Gregg Gilmore. It is her first book, and it is a good one. I enclosed an excerpt from the book below. The book starts with Catherine Grace at a young age and details her life as a small town preacher's daughter in Ringgold GA. She is always dreaming of the "big city" life. It is really neat to see the evolution of Catherine Grace as she grows up and finds her place in the world. Don't we all wonder if the grass is greener on the other side occasionally, and most of the time don't we find out it isn't really greener after all.
"My daddy always said that if the good Lord can take the time to care for something as small as a baby sparrow nesting in a tree, then surely he could take the time to listen to a little girl in Ringgold, Georgia. So every night before I went to bed I got down on my knees and begged the Lord to find me a way out of this town. And every morning, I woke up in the same old place."

My new endeavour

When I get a chance I love to paint. It really relaxes me, even though the chance I get are few and far between. Well, for about a year I have been painting small paintings for our friends who are expecting. It is a nice personal touch. Alisha was brave enough and had enough faith in me to ask me to do some big ones for her- for Bella's room. The paintings turned out great- I wanted to wait to get a picture until she hangs them but I did take a picture and get a lot of positive feedback especially on the growth chart I made. It was the first one I have made and I do have to say it turned out pretty good. I even have several people who want me to make one for them- since I have the week off why not. It also leads me to my new endeavour (I think). Anthony has been encouraging me to put my art on a website... so I think I am going to give it a try. We have a friend that is willing to set one up for me and I am also planning on looking in etsy.com. I figure it is worth a try- I normally am super nervous to try things like this (I have a fear of rejection apparently- in other words I am a wuss) but I think I need to "have a go at it" (as I tell my kids). What is there to lose? I'll hopefully be posting more about this soon. Here is a peek at what I made.
Followed by an afternoon baby shower
After Talin's Baptism I had a baby shower at my house for my dear friend Alisha. Alisha is having a little girl in 4 weeks named Bella Avery. It was lots of fun to girl it up. I used my Grandma's "desert rose" china (it as pink roses- I know the name gave it away), made some yummy food (with help from my mom), visited with some great girls, and played some fun games. I meant to take pictures but I just got too busy, hopefully Alisha will share with me and I will post them soon.
A Morning Baptism

Today was a busy day. First, bright and early this morning we went to a baptism and became Godparents to our friends'(Teague and Laura's) little boy, Talin. He didn't even flinch when the priest poured the water over his head and was so well behaved! I think I would have protested with all the oil that was put on his head. It is an amazing time to experience in a child's life.
Leggings

My mom is taking the day off to come visit with me tomorrow- for a girl's day. Of course that will include some shopping. This brings a very important question to mind, which I have been deliberating for some time. Ok- ready for it... Do I or do I not buy leggings? I know they are in style right now and I think they look cute0 on other people... but let's just face it, my tush is not the smallest thing in the world. I just can't decide. Not like this is a life or death decision, just one of those silly things in life I can't help but ponder.
MY fun new toy
I always tease Anthony for being attached to his phone- even more so since he got his iPhone last month. Well- the 13th was my 28th birthday (I know I'm starting to get up there) and my mom and dad got me on the bandwagon with my very own iPhone. I have to admit I now understand the attachment my hubby experiences. I love all the fun apps- my particular favorites are the bubble wrap, Bible, and errands. I am no longer able to fuss at him over that silly phone- because that silly phone comes in very handy in so many different ways! Who knew- I am now officially an iPhine junkie!

Allow me to purge post one: Playdough and a movie
My goodness it has been so long... and not by choice... I can't seem to find the time to sit down. The past week has been a whirl wind. Let's see.. I will start at the beginning. I had a crazy day last Friday... I can't really go into details but let's just say recess+play dough and boys= some interesting things being made. Are you getting the picture? Awww... boys will be boys and I had to giggle- behind my back, after I fussed at them. That night I had invited my class to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. About 10-15 of my kids came and the movie
Bonus Student Stuff:
I made a comment during a lesson that "I keep seeing the same hands", so the little girl in front of me thought for a second (she was one who always had her hand raised), she put her hand that was in the air down and then raised the other hand.
I pulled a student aside (let's call this kid Baily) and asked if they did something that they shouldn't have. Baily said
No automatically. I stared at Bailey for a second (teachers, moms you know the look). Well it must have worked because Bailey said alright fine.. I did it. I couldn't hold my smile in and when I did smile Baily said said "What, you were staring at me.

What I want to be when I grow up
I often find myself wondering... what would I do if I wasn't a teacher. I finally have perfected my dream job "when I grow up" because it doesn't pay the bills. I want to open a children's/teacher's bookstore. There would be meeting rooms for teachers and story rooms for kids. There would be all the newest resources for teachers and the kids could enjoy all the amazing children's books I could lay my hands on. I would have different story hours and projects for teh kids. In the bookstore I would have a bakery counter with all my homemade baked goods I love to make, and the walls would be covered with children's artwork and maybe a little of my own too. And the icing on teh cake would be that Gracie could come with me to work everyday since she loves people. This is my dream job... when I grow up!
Not a good sitter
I am not a good sit still kind of person. So, today was difficult for me. I was forced to call in sick because I have strep throat. No good. Anyway I tried to rest- I even took two naps and was pretty impressed with the fact that I didn't vacuum or dust. But in between I started reading my new book (Finding Salvation at the Dairy Queen). Who can resist a book with a name like that? I also made a math homework sheet, baked banana chocolate chip bread, painted my toes a pretty coral pink, tried to search the web to figure out what to get him for his birthday (no luck on this one), planned a movie night with my class, made a tasty dinner for Anthony and caught up on Facebook. Overall it was a pretty productive day- but geez I am not a fan of sitting still, although as a friend of mine pointed out... have you ever tried to stand still- it's much harder!
