Classics

I love a good classic movie. Nothing beats a black and white oldie. Anthony has been out of town, so I've been catching up. These are my 2 all time favs!
This is a Christmas classic, but it seems to be overtaken anymore by A Christmas Story. This is way better! It is about faith, believing, and the true spirit of Christmas.
This of course is the classic love story. Enough said!

These are just my top 2. I could go on forever. Do you have any old favorites? Maybe not as old as mine.. some may be Clueless old... sad to say but yes, Clueless is old.

Comfort food and a "play date"

I haven't really been eating well this week, not bad, just so busy it is hard to slow down to make something. Tonight though, I stopped and took time to make something yummy. My friend and her little one came over for dinner tonight, so I actually had to serve something besides veggie straws. So, I went to a staple comfort food. This is the dish I make for babies, deaths, and on a cool day when I have someone to share it with (Anthony won't eat it, so I need other takers). The dish is chicken pot pie and it is from Paula Deen. Need I say more?

Chicken Pot Pie: (remember I always change recipes a bit to make them my own- this is my version of Paula Deen's)
1 can cream of cheddar
1 can cream of celery
1/2 cup milk
about 2 chicken breasts
1/2 onion
1 bag mixed veggies

Boil chicken. When chicken is done mix together the cream of celery, cream of cheddar, and milk. Put on heat and bring to a boil. Then add veggies and chicken (shredded). Add pepper to taste. Put filling in a deep pie crust and cover with another crust. Cook at 350 for 40 minutes.

And that would have been good on its own, but we had great company too. Gracie and Bella played and they were so cute together. Bella is such a good baby and Gracie enjoyed playing with her while Alisha and I chatted.

Wordless Wednesday

I really was getting antsy with my current living room. It seemed dull and lackluster to me. New chairs and couches are not in the budget right no, so by visiting TJ Maxx and Pier One I was able to spruce up the living room for just $120.

Blessings Box

I have meant to do the Blessing Box, really I've had good intentions. Unfortunately, I need to actually do what I mean to do. The important thing is, I am here today. And I am thankful for one simple thing today...
Every cloud has a silver lining.

We had rough weather here today. And tonight, as a result we had these beautiful skies.

Waiting patiently... really

Over the fall break Anthony and I did lots of rearranging. Part of that rearranging meant we set up part of the nursery. I talked with our social worker last week too. Of course we are still waiting to be approved. Nothing ever seems to go according to my plan (although it really is His plan) when it comes to the state. I keep telling myself that God had the perfect child for us, and I don't need to try to rush it or take control. Been there, done that... it really didn't get me too far. For now, I'll slowly begin to piece together the room patiently. For those of you that know me, yes I can be patient, I am beginning to master the skill. No need to rush life. I still need to paint a glider, and find a bookshelf. I know there is a lot more, but I figure it will be fun to get it when we get a call.

Swooning on Zac Brown

I adore Zac Brown Band. My friend got me hooked on them last summer. And as I was jamming to Toes and Chicken Fried they put me over the edge by appearing on Crossroads with Jimmy Buffett. Well I kicked off my fall break with an hour and a half at Barnes and Noble (total bliss!) and came across their new CD: You Get What You Give. I have blasted it all week. My favorites are: Knee Deep (with Jimmy- of course it is my fav) and Quiet Your Mind. I typically don't buy CDs so if I do it has to be a good one. This definitely is. Go out and grab your own or download it from ITunes. You won't regret it!

My computer is fixed

my car was fixed yesterday, but then I broke my phone today... I fixed it... I hope that is all!

French Lick

We LOVE French Lick. It is just a short drive for us and is a nice over night getaway. We did just that on Monday night. Took a break from life... and it was wonderful. We had dinner, went to the casino, slept in, I got a massage, we went for a walk.. It was most needed and appreciated. If you haven't been I highly recommend it. We got a gift card last Christmas, so it wasn't too expensive. There is tons to do that I didn't mention (horseback riding, wine tasting). All of it is a must!

29ish

Last week the hubby and I turned 29. He is a full 2 days older than me. I have to say I am not overly excited about the big 3-0 looming, but what's a girl to do. We celebrated with friends at our tailgate, Anthony had a surprise boys' night and we went to dinner with my parents.

By the way... yes, my hubby is wearing a flag as a cape... guess age is just a number

What I've been working on

It's fall break and I have been hard at work... and play... but I'll post about the fun later. The basement is ready for furniture, so we moved the office furniture down to the basement last night. Then I moved the guest bedroom to the back bedroom and got it all quaint and cozy. Today, I switched Anthony's dresser and mine, because I am tired of dressing in the dark and now all my clothes are in the sitting room dresser. I also cleaned out the closet and got rid of a ton of stuff! It feels good to accomplish all that stuff that needs to be accomplished!

My new philosophy

Anthony and I talked a couple of weeks ago about the enormous amounts of work I bring home with me. Literally, at the end of a school day I just grab anything that I can finish at home and go. I want to enjoy a walk with my friend, make dinner for the hubby, and have some time to myself (ie- I need a shower). I feel like I can't do those things if I am stuck at school. So, I would lug it all home, walk, make dinner, get a shower, and then sit on the end of the couch while Anthony watched a movie and I would do school work. This is not spending time together. So, we talked about it. I promised I would work harder to not bring a bunch of junk home. That means any free time I have at school is spent devoted to the extras that I don't normally get to work on in a school day. Lunch, early mornings, and plannings are all spent tediously working on the stuff that normally gets brought home. And if it doesn't get finished then it can wait till the next day. I have found that this new philosophy makes me a much happier girl. I actually spend quality time with my husband, get to do things like paint, and relax. I love being a teacher, but first I am a wife and daughter. It feels good to shuffle things around. It doesn't mean I am not as good of a teacher, I'm still the same. Just making room for what is most important and putting it first.

The paintings!

I finished the last of the 4 paintings for the nursery. They are all themed around my favorite children's' books. I love them... but especially Horton!

I'm back!!!

I have been through blogger detox and I have to admit, I hated it. Nonetheless, the computer is up and running and I have PLENTY to blog about. I don't have much time though... the hubby and I are taking a quick trip and I have to finish packing. I'll fill in the details when I get back. I'll also have plenty of backdated posts to come. For now I have to ask though.... all you SEC ladies... did you see it? Did you see the amazing win? The Wildcats beat the Ole' Ball Coach. Oh how exciting it was. And I was there to see it. Here are a few pictures. I have to say I thought it was a bit crazy we ran on the field... I don't think it was the win against SC but the win against Spurrier... and maybe the fashion in which we won.

Show us your kitchen

Today over at Kelly's Korner is show us your kitchen. I love the kitchen as baking and cooking is one of my favorite things to do. This is not my dream kitchen but I love it for where I am at now in my life. Not too big, not too fancy, but lots of my favorite things.
love the open feeling and of course the sea blue walls. Also love the cake dish. When I don't have fresh baked goods I have fun cupcakes to put in it.
The fun magnetic board my mom bought me. I have small magnets that change with the season.
Love how funky and fun this rug is. Very eclectic, like me:)
Can't see it as well as I'd like in this pic but over the window it says "We will have these moments to remember". We love to entertain, so this is perfect for us.

ListyLou

Fall break is just six working days ahead of me now. I get a whole week off work! I feel like I'm not nearly as stressed this year but just a lot more busy. Perhaps it is the fact that I'm done with all that crazy fertility stuff... It's a good busy but sometimes I really miss the time for myself. So in honor of fall break being only five days away and because I am totally stealing this list idea form my list making teacher buddy, Caitlin. Here's my list of things I get to do when I don't have to go to work everyday.
  • Walk Gracie every day the long walk. Even if the stupid dog at the corner has busted out
  • paint the basement and get it ready
  • set up the crib paint the nursery pictures
  • get a massage get a manicure
  • go to Georgetown
  • make dinner every night for the hubby.. if I can drag him off the course
  • watch the Today show on something other than snippets on my cell phone

It feels so good

Not completely finished yet.. but it's a start. It will be 1 of 3 bird paintings.

Last night I did something I haven't done in months. I picked up my paint brush and my oils and I sat down and painted. It felt so good! If I have any time to paint anymore it's stuff for my at my etsy shop. Baby/kid stuff is so fun to paint but it's nice to just sit down and open my oils. It is a totally different kind of painting. I love the relaxation of it. It sounds kind of cheesy but I almost get lost in the painting. It is definitely my outlet. Everyone should have their own outlet. It keeps you sane. What's yours? Please share.

Girls Night IN

This is what I did this weekend. We had a fire in the fire pit, sangria, laughs, girl talk, deep talks, battery issues, camera issues... and overall a big ole' blast. I love these lovely ladies.

Wordless Wednesday

Love the hubby
even when he is being "iced" at his surprise boys' night

Halloween lights

If you've been reading for awhile you know that from time to time I like to give my opinion. So here it is. My opinion. For what it's worth. Probably not a lot. I love Christmas. I love the decorations, I love the Christmas trees, I love the stockings, I love the lights. What I don't love is decorating for Halloween with lights. When did this start to happen? Now Halloween decorations consist of orange glowing lights. Orange isn't even a pretty color. And then there's the bat lights that blink on and off. Why do you want bats on your house? What happened to the traditional Halloween decoration scarecrows, pumpkins, and ghosts? I feel like Halloween is kind of starting to take away from the Christmas season. I hope I don't offend you if you are one of those people who has the orange glowing lights outside your doorstep. Maybe you have a sweet pea who insists that you decorate with them or maybe you just like the color orange but this girl is going to stick with pumpkins and scarecrow for her Halloween decorations. Save the lights for Christmas, let them glow white in the pretty snow. Sounds like a good idea to me. Just a heads up I'll probably be on here around Christmas time telling you how much I hate the stupid blowup decorations that people put in their yard. Maybe I'm just too much of an old-fashioned kind of girl. What do you think Halloween lights or not so much?
